SYNOPSIS:
Center Stage Community Theatre's next presentation, written by Bill C. Davis and directed by Sally Dunlap, will be Mass Appeal, a brilliantly funny yet compassionate play that had a long and critically hailed Broadway run. The play explores the conflict between an established, older priest and the impassioned young seminarian who challenges the validity of his well-routined life. Father Tim Farley is comfortably ensconced as the priest of a prosperous Catholic congregation. Without realizing it, he has resorted to flattering his parishioners and entertaining them with sermons that skirt any disturbing issues in order to keep his comfortable life. His well-ordered world is disrupted by the arrival of Mark Dolson, an intense and idealistic young seminarian who needs to learn that forbearance and tolerance are as vital to the Christian ethic as is righteousness, and whom Father Farley reluctantly agrees to take under his wing. The tussle of ideas that ensues is both entertaining, enlightening, and often very funny. The characters are brilliantly played by Bill Becker, a talented and experienced actor from Plainfield, IN, and Ryan Batsie, a delightful young newcomer from Noblesville, IN, who teaches at Zionsville Middle School.
The play will be presented at Center Stage Community Theatre, 604 Powell Street, Lebanon, IN 46052, every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 pm and every Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm from March 5 through March 21, 2010. There is no bad language in the play, but there are controversial subjects which will make all of us think and, quite often, laugh.
